An independent house for books made to be kept

Aveline Editions publishes premium coloring books of the real world, beautifully drawn — one considered theme per title, original full-page art, and the real story beside every plate.

Aveline Editions began with a simple frustration: the coloring book aisle is full of books nobody made with any care.

Thin outlines floating in white space. Clip-art shapes repeated across a dozen unrelated titles. Pages printed double-sided so every finished piece ruins the one behind it. Subjects chosen because they sell, not because anyone found them interesting.

We thought the form deserved better. Coloring is quiet, patient, slow work — hours spent inside a single image. That is a rare kind of attention, and it ought to be spent on something worth looking at closely.

So Aveline was built as a publishing house rather than a print shop. We take one subject at a time and treat it properly: real places, researched carefully, drawn edge to edge as original full-page illustrations, and printed large on single-sided bright-white stock. Facing every plate is a written page — the history, the design, the people, the moments — so the book rewards curiosity as much as craft.

The first edition, Golf's Iconic Holes: The Full Round, gathers forty of the game’s most recognizable holes. The series continues from there. We publish slowly and deliberately, and we would rather release one title we are proud of than four we are not.

How every title is made

  • Original art, drawn for the page

Every plate is made for the trim it will be printed at. Nothing is cropped from stock, scaled from a pattern library, or reused between titles. Foreground, middle ground and horizon are all drawn — because a landscape without depth is not worth an hour of anyone’s time.

  • Research before line work

Before a plate is drawn, the place is studied: its design, its history, the people who shaped it and the moments that made it known. That research becomes the written page facing the illustration, and it is why our books hold up to readers who know the subject.

  • Printed as an object, not a pad

Large-format trim, one illustration per sheet, bright-white paper, and a cover built to be seen on a shelf. A coloring book should survive being finished — ours are made to be colored, displayed, and kept.

The Mark

The hazelnut

Aveline is an old word for the hazelnut — a small, hard-shelled thing that takes a long season to fill out and keeps well once it does. It seemed the right emblem for what we are trying to make: patient work, properly finished, built to last on a shelf.

The mark appears on the spine of every Aveline edition.

The Aveline Letter

New editions, quietly announced

A short letter when a new volume is finished — a look at the plates, the places behind them, and how the book was made. No more than a few times a year.
